Leslee J. McFerren
Leslee J. McFerren was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, and raised in California, where the beauty of nature and the love of family profoundly influenced her. After retiring from a career in banking in 2009, she turned to hand ribbon embroidery, revitalizing and expanding the simple kits she first encountered in the 1990s into a rich and personal artistic practice.
Self-taught and inspired by her travels and natural surroundings, Leslee creates textured, almost three-dimensional landscapes using hand-dyed silk ribbons, along with found objects such as feathers, gold wire, and various mixed media elements. She brings new life to this rare 18th-century technique through a contemporary and tactile approach.
Leslee’s work has received recognition through local awards and has been showcased at regional art festivals. She
believes that art has the power to connect people and enhance everyday life.
